Rasta Barista was born from a simple conviction: that Madison deserved a taste of something truly authentic. Sei and Melissa Kidau brought their Jamaican roots — and the world-renowned coffee that grows there — straight to Park Street.
Where the idea came from
Sei and Melissa Kidau grew up with Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee — not as a luxury, but as a daily ritual, something woven into the rhythm of island life. When they landed in Madison, they saw a gap: a city full of coffee lovers with no access to the real thing.
The coffee that makes it different
Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is among the most sought-after in the world, and Rasta Barista roasts it in-house so every cup is as fresh as it gets. You can smell the difference the moment you walk through the door.
A home inside the HUB
Rasta Barista opened inside Madison's Black Business Hub on Park Street — a space that already stood for community, ambition, and belonging. That energy is exactly what Sei and Melissa wanted to build around.

Isthmus named Rasta Barista among Madison's notable dining openings of 2025 — but the real measure is the neighbors who've made it their regular stop. Sei and Melissa built this place for them.
